What's in a name? Lola 'just right' for Zoo's baby baboon
QUEENSLAND Zoo's newest baby baboon finally has a name.
After weeks of searching Genie's daughter, a very hairy baby, has been named Lola.
The Daily's readers helped by submitting their own name ideas on Facebook.
With more than 100 names submitted, the zoo had a tough time picking the perfect one.
When they sprung Tammy Jenkins' suggestion they felt it was the perfect fit.
Zoo spokeswoman Emma Morgan said Lola was a Spanish name but had African roots.
"It is commonly used in Africa to shorten the names omolola, damilola and tamilola, and these mean tulip," she said.
The zoo welcomed the baby on Monday, October 20 after mum Genie the hamadryas baboon gave birth during the early hours of the morning.
Lola is the fifth baboon at the zoo.
