'You've got to have something to waste your money on'

CHECKING out the action at the Rocklea Heritage Truck Show was Peter Hughes, all the way from New Zealand.

He was one of a group of 85 transport operators who had made the trip across the Tasman to take in both the Rocklea event and the Brisbane Truck Show in the city.

An owner-driver, Peter operates a Kenworth T408 and dog trailer on radiata pine transport around his hometown of Cambridge on the North Island.

A diesel mechanic by trade, he has worked in general freight before taking on log haulage for the past nine years.

Peter also has in the shed a rugged 1970 Canadian-built Kenworth LW923, which was previously owned by Fletcher Holdings on logging duties.

"It takes a bit of driving but it's a hobby truck,” he said.

"I have taken it to a couple of shows.

"You have got to have something to waste your money on!”

While in Australia, the tour group also visited the Volvo/Mack manufacturing facility a little further down the Ipswich Motorway at Wacol.
