Young generation inheriting huge debt courtesy of Coalition

IN 2013, the Liberals argued the nation's gross debt of $273 billion was a budget emergency and intergenerational theft as the young would have to repay the debt.

After five short years and promises to reduce the debt, the debt is now $518.6 billion under the governance of the LNP Coalition.

Our young generation is inheriting a huge debt, therefore budget repair needs to be a top priority.

This government's answer to budget repair is giving big business a tax cut which many experts doubt will have the benefits hoped for.

The Labor opposition have been working on proposals such as changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax and now the restructuring of dividend imputation.

The Howard/Costello government handed retirees a windfall when they made it so anyone over the age of 60 and earning $60,000 a year from a super fund pays no tax but able to claim a cash rebate from franking credits.

A young worker earning $60,000 pays about $11,000 plus the Medicare levy of $1200. How is that fair?

We are no longer reaping the benefits of a mining boom which allowed the Howard/Costello largesse.

Labor is making hard decisions on tax policy reform to make it more equitable to ease the burden on future generations.
