Young enthusiast eyes Anna's seat

YOUNG people can learn how to govern but you cannot teach enthusiasm.

That's the view of Glasshouse Mountains 20-year-old Rhys Reynolds who wants the seat of Anna Grosskreutz who will stand aside at the next election

As the candidate for Division 1, his success would mean representing communities including Landsborough, Caloundra South, Beerwah, Glasshouse Mountains and Warana.

Beerwah bureaucrat Rick Baberowski, 55, announced in mid-March he would also run.

Mr Reynolds' friends at University of the Sunshine Coast are likely eyeing textbooks or enjoying some free time while Mr Reynolds is eyeing off a career in politics.

The former Beerwah High School captain and prefect is rounding out his final year of a public relations degree. He craves the burden of public life after a lifetime of avid interest in politics.

“I remember in primary school that I would pick up The Australian. I've always been interested in politics,” he said.

“You can't learn enthusiasm. You can learn everything but unless you have that zest to succeed, it won't matter.

“There needs to be an equal balance. You need those with life experience and those with enthusiasm.”
