Yeppoon policeman 'punched in face'

11am: A MAN has been charged after a Yeppoon police sergeant was punched in the face at Yeppoon.

The officer was allegedly assaulted while arresting four men after a fight broke out at a local tavern early Sunday morning.

Two men, both aged 20, of Rockhampton and Yeppoon respectively, had caused a disturbance and were asked to leave the venue at 1.20am.

The men allegedly walked outside and began to fight in the street, and two more men became involved.

Police were called to break up the fight, and a sergeant was punched in the face by a 22-year-old Yeppoon man.

He was charged with serious assault of a police officer and seriously obstructing police.

Two others were charged with public nuisance and a fourth with public nuisance and obstructing police.

They will all appear in the Yeppoon Magistrates Court on February 4.
