Year-long operation has netted results

NORTH Burnett police are cracking down on alcohol-fuelled violence with Operation Jabbah.

Gayndah Police Sergeant Josh Ryan is helping to run the operation and wants to educate the public on the expectations of the law. .

"On this weekend just gone we have conducted an operation against alcohol-fuelled incidents at the western stations,” Sgt Ryan said.

"It's designed to ensure that people in and around licensed areas are safe, it's a big thing at the moment with relation to violence in the streets and it's also something we obviously target all the time anyway.”

Sgt Ryan said the operation was about educating the public.

The operation is already showing positive results after the first 12 months.

"Since the commencement of this operation, over the last year we haven't had one reported assault on a licensed premises,” Sgt Ryan said.

The operation also ties into a crackdown on all other minor and major offences within the community.

A recent string of offences were tackled by Gayndah police who responded and resolved the situation quickly.

"That's our commitment, both officers on the day weren't working but when there is something that needs our attention we are there to do it,” Sgt Ryan said.

"There were five juveniles in relation to those incidents which included a range of offences from break and enter, drugs, fraud and stealing.

"They have been dealt with under juvenile law in Bundaberg. That matter was dealt with within less than nine hours of us being informed which again shows our commitment to the community.”
