PROUD Gympie grandparents Rob and Betty Shadbolt have all the news clippings of Caitlyn Shadbolt on X Factor but aren't prepared to start reflecting just yet.

The couple believe their granddaughter has a long way to go ahead of a second week of live performances and is calling on Caitlyn's fans to launch another voting frenzy.

It was a lift in support which spared the Gympie singer from the show's first elimination Monday night, ultimately sending home Dannii Minogue's group act, Trill.

The grandparents' excitement, and nerves, were apparent ahead of the live elimination.

"It's so unbelievable," Rob said. "I can't imagine this is happening.

"Provided Caitlyn keeps getting the song choices right she is in with a very good chance."

Both of Caitlyn's grandparents agreed the competition was "tough" this year.

"All the contestants are very good," they said.

Rob found his weekly trip to the newsagent to buy a lotto ticket had changed following Caitlyn's X Factor debut.

"I had a woman beside me say she hoped I was voting for Caitlyn, that she would be voting and she was just so enthusiastic about it," he said.

"The reaction around town is just bubbling with enthusiasm."

Caitlyn's grandparents recalled their gift of a toy guitar when the singer three, saying her love for music "shone through".

"She was always singing and dancing from a young age and we wanted to encourage her," Betty said.
