Woman punched, choked during alleged rape attempt

A MAN who allegedly punched and attempted to choke his partner in an alleged rape attempt in a Brisbane suburb has been charged with attempted murder.

Around 1.30am on Wednesday,  police said they were called to an address in Jane Street, West End following reports of a disturbance.

It will be alleged a 37-year-old man was involved in an altercation with a 43-year-old woman.

Police arrested the man at the scene and he was later charged with one count each of attempted murder and assault with intent to rape.

A 37-year-old South Brisbane man is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
