A MIDDLE-AGED truck driver punched his partner in the face, which caused her to fall through a glass window.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, the man, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to breaching a protection order.

The assault arose out of an argument between the couple at their North Ipswich home on October 9.

When the woman tried to leave the house, the 47-year-old man hit her twice in the face.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said the force of the blows caused the victim to tumble backwards through a glass window, breaking it.

Her fall also broke some other property, which further angered the man. He threw some items at the woman.

The victim was able to phone police and give an address before the man ripped the phone away from her and smashed it.

Police arrived to find the woman with red marks and swelling on her face and body.

Ms Sturgess said the offence was a "serious" breach of the protection order the victim had made against him in August.

"It would have been a terrifying experience for your partner," she told the man. "Your behaviour was unacceptable."

Ms Sturgess noted the man had a history which included previous breaches of protection orders against other people, which she described as "concerning."

Defence lawyer Alexis Oxley said the man was still in a relationship with the victim, who was present in court to support him.

Ms Oxley said since the offence, the man had undertaken steps to get counselling.

The man was convicted and sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years.
