Williams on course to meet Stosur

SERENA Williams took her first step towards a dream Brisbane International showdown with Sam Stosur with a straight sets win over Chanelle Scheepers at Pat Rafter Arena on Monday.

Earlier, Serbian Ana Ivanovic cruised to a straight-sets win over Austrian Tamira Paszek on centre court.

Meanwhile, 2011 finalist and second seed Andrea Petkovic overcame a second-set wobble to move past Israel's Shahar Peer 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.

Williams took just 70 minutes to cruise past the South African 6-2, 6-3 on Monday, moving her closer to a possible U.S. Open final rematch against Stosur in the semi finals.

Queenslander Stosur defeated Williams in straight sets at the 2011 U.S. Open final but the American holds a 5-4 career advantage over the world No. 6.
