The Wiggles to introduce their new team to Ipswich fans
THE world's most popular children's entertainment group, The Wiggles, will be in Ipswich to introduce their new team this month.
After 21 years of entertaining children around the globe, it's the beginning of an exciting new era for The Wiggles as they head out on their "Taking Off" tour.
All of your Wiggly friends, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog and Henry the Octopus, will be along as well to dance and sing along to Hot Potato, Fruit Salad, Rock-a-Bye Your Bear and all your favourite Wiggles hits.
Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, who started The Wiggles more than 21 years ago selected the new team to join Dorothy and friends from Wiggles cast he had worked with over many years.
First female Wiggle Emma will don the yellow skivvy, while Brisbane lad Lachlan has become the purple Wiggle.
Speaking to The Queensland Times, red Wiggle Simon Pryce said he was excited about coming to Ipswich and even though the cast was different, they had already received great feedback from their tour.
"People have so much faith, trust and loyalty with The Wiggles - they want us to continue as a group no matter what," Simon said.
"At first people might have been afraid of the new team being a bit unknown, but we've been so well received and are looking forward to coming to Ipswich. It should be lots of fun."
Simon said seeing the smile on the children's faces as he performed was a hugely rewarding part of the show.
He formerly played Ringo the Ringmaster, and had been on the road with the original gang for 12 years.
"It's just fantastic and being part of the cast is a great experience - I have been on the road for a while with the team now so have already learnt the ropes," he said.
The Wiggles are now in Mt Isa on the first leg of their Queensland tour, and Simon said one eager family had travelled 1100km from Alice Springs to see them.
Blue Wiggle Anthony said the tour was a great way to start the year.
"There's so much energy with these young guys," Anthony said.
"All our Wiggly fans can meet the new team when we head to Ipswich on April 20 and 21," he said.
The group will perform on Saturday at 1pm and 4:30pm and on Sunday at 10am and 1pm at the Ipswich Civic Centre.
