A BARGARA family got a taste of a very different lifestyle when they filmed an episode of Wife Swap Australia recently.
Health nuts Tracey and Russell Jackson, along with their two daughters Serah, 19, and Aijha, 12, took part in the reality television show, which saw Mrs Jackson swap places with another woman - a Logan mother-of-eight whose eating and exercise habits could not have been more different to hers.
Mrs Jackson said during the six-day encounter the first three days were lived under the Daly clan's normal rules, but on day four, the tables were turned as the Dalys were forced to live by her lifestyle.
"I'm a personal trainer and Russell is a builder and we're both very committed to our fitness and work-out every day," she said.
"I went to an overweight, lazy family. It was really hard for me to see these children so neglected, nutrition wise."
Mrs Jackson said she was shocked to see how the Daly family lived.
"There were eight children high on sugar because all their diet consisted of was sugar," she said.
"They were allowed to help themselves to seconds and thirds, so you had a five-year-old eating all these servings."
But all that changed on day four when Mrs Jackson took control.
"When I threw out all the rubbish food, they were pretty distraught - the kids were crying," Mrs Jackson said.
Back home, things were just as bad for Russell, who was forced to stop all exercise and had his protein powders locked away.
"My husband tried to take her to the gym," she said.
"They fought a lot."
But the experience was not all bad.
Mrs Jackson said she and her husband had a different view on parenting to most.
"We put our relationship before our children and, to the general public, that may seem strange," she said.
"To be a good mother, you've got to take care of yourself, so we take time away and go away, just the two of us."
She said thanks to the show, she was now spending much more time with her youngest daughter, which was one of the rules Mrs Daly implemented.
But her rule to cease all exercise?
That one was thrown out immediately.
The episode will air on the Lifestyle You channel on Monday at 7.30pm.
