JUST when we were annoyed that Ellen DeGeneres didn't visit our lovely part of the country, her producers and crew snuck in a quick visit to Hayman Island and boasted about their travels on the show this morning.

Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey said after filming in NSW and Victoria last month, the show's producers and crew chose to end their Australian experience on Hayman Island.

"I am thrilled that members of the crew chose to shoot in Queensland and that our tourism experiences will be played to a global audience of more than 16 million," Ms Stuckey said.

The Whitsundays were beamed to millions of viewers in the US this morning after reporter Jeannie Klisiewicz, from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, visited the region during her time in Australia. 

"The crew spent two days on Hayman visiting the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach," Ms Stuckey said.

"On top of the television coverage, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has also mentioned Queensland on its official social media accounts including Twitter, which has more than 17 million followers."

Ms Stuckey said travel between America and Queensland was better than ever with an increase in direct services between the state and the US over the past year.

"Last year, the number of US travellers choosing to visit Queensland rose eight per cent to 160,000 and visitors spent $258 million on their trips, up nine per cent from the year before," she said.
