BIG Rigs is keeping you updated on roadworks around the country.

Thanks to the Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese's office in this issue we have included what's happening in Victoria.

Western Ring Rd: Widening the Western Ring Rd to a minimum of three lanes in each direction.

Lane widening and safety improvement works will:

- Enhance the capacity of the M80, in particular for freight vehicles;

- Improve travel times and travel reliability;

- Maximise traffic flow and reduce congestion on the road network; and

- Improve road safety.

Total cost: $980 million.

Expected to be complete mid 2014. About 20,000 trucks use this road each day.

Metropolitan Ring Rd: Widening the Metropolitan Ring Rd to a minimum of three lanes in each direction including upgrades to three interchanges.

Total cost: $220 million

Expected to be complete mid-2014. About 5400 trucks use this road each day.

Princess Hwy East (Traralgon to Sale): Duplicating the Princes Hwy between Traralgon and Sale to provide two lanes in each direction. This project will complete about 22km of the 43km route and will continue beyond the current Nation Building Program.

This project will reduce travel times, improve safety and support the freight task for regional products being transported to national and international markets, via the Port of Melbourne.

Total cost: $175 million

Expected to be complete mid-2016.

Geelong Ring Rd Stage 4B: Construction of a 5km freeway standard connection from Anglesea Rd to the Princes Hwy West near Draytons Rd.

Section 4B will provide for freight travelling from western Victoria with an extended bypass of Geelong as well as improved access to the nationally significant tourist facilities in south western Victoria.

This project will also increase safety and amenity for motorists through improved travel conditions.

Total cost: $110 million

Expected to be complete mid-2013.

Western Hwy Duplication from Ballarat to Stawell: Duplication of the Western Hwy from the Sunraysia Hwy at Ballarat to Stawell. This project will complete about 57km of the 110km route and will continue beyond the current Nation Building Program.

Total cost: $505 million

Expected to be complete mid 2015

Western Hwy: Upgrade between Stawell and the South Australian Border - new overtaking lanes, rest areas, bridge upgrades and new Intelligent Transport System signs on the Western Hwy between Stawell and the South Australian border.

Total cost: $48.45 million

Expected to be complete mid-2014.

Goulburn Valley Hwy - Nagambie Bypass: Construction of the 17km Nagambie Bypass on the Goulburn Valley Hwy and an upgrade of a truck parking area south of the Bypass.

Total cost: $188.7 million

Expected to be complete at the end of this year.

Duplication of the Princes Hwy from Waurn Ponds to Winchelsea: Construction of a 23km four lane, dual carriageway between Waurn Ponds and Winchelsea.

Total cost: $220 million

Expected to be complete mid-2014.

Clyde Rd - Berwick: Construction of a four lane dual divided carriageway from High St to Kangan Drv.

Total cost: $55.6 million

Expected to be complete at the end of 2013.
