What a geologist thinks of an old story about a flood
ROCKS, life's big issues and evidence behind an age-old story about a flood will be discussed when a geologist comes to Kingaroy.
Dr Tasman Walker will be providing three talks in Kingaroy on behalf of Creation Ministries International on February 2 and 3.
"Some people can say it's religious, I think it is more a world view system, the belief system of our world,” he said.
Dr Walker has been working with creation ministries for 20 years, but previously worked as a power engineer.
He has studied geology as a mature-aged student and has investigated and documented geological features such as volcanic deposits, the Grand Canyon and the Three Sisters.
Dr Walker will speak at the South Burnett Men's Shed on February 2 at 5.30pm.
He will discuss how the bible's book of Genesis helps explain things in the world for men.
"Men like to know how everything works,” he said.
"Men are often interested in geology, biology and genetics and Genesis is very helpful in providing a framework for thinking in all of those different things.”
There will also be a free talk held at Booie Hall the following morning at 9am about how the idea of creation impacts the modern world.
"I'll talk about the big issues in our world, some of those cultural effects that are sweeping our world and affecting our children,” Dr Walker said.
A final talk discussing evidence for Noah's flood found in Australia will be held at the Kingaroy St John's Lutheran School hall at 5pm.
Dr Walker said many people have heard the story or seen cute pictures in a nursery of Noah's ark with all of the animals hanging out of it.
"Noah's flood was a real event, the ark was a large ship and it was a great catastrophe,” he said.
"Understanding how Noah's flood impacted our world changes the way we look at things and how we look at our own lives.”
Dr Walker said people should use tools like the internet to do their own research to answer big questions about whether creation or evolution were possible.
"Do your own research into the issues of Noah's flood, the age of the rocks and earth,” he said.
"Were we created, is there a purpose to my life and where did I come from.”
