SEVERE heatwave conditions are continuing in the southwest for the next 10 days, with no signs of the extreme heat breaking.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist David Crock has warned residents in the Maranoa the hot weather is here to stay.

"There is a very stable pattern of weather continuing over the southwest for the next week so, unfortunately, no relief for the southwest from the high 30s and low 40s," Mr Crock said.

"It is expected to continue well into the weekend and there is no real relief or rain forecast."

Mr Crock said the next 10 days was showing no apparent change in the weather, which had been the case for a while.

"Hopefully the heatwave breaks soon and we see a bit of rain, but that doesn't look the case any time soon for southwest Queensland.

"It has been pretty dry all through the Maranoa and the Warrego with little to no rainfall in the past month.

"Given how dry and hot it is, fire dangers are generally very high and will be for the whole week," he said.

But while the mercury continues to rise, people in the region are keeping cool by hitting the pool.

Denise Spencer Memorial Pool manager Stacey Robertson said patron numbers for the past month had significantly increased, thanks to the warm weather.

"Patronage has increased with mainly visitors and families utilising the pool because they have come back to town to visit relatives and friends over the summer breaks," Ms Robertson said. "We have lots of families from outside of town also using the pool, which is great."

Hot and sunny conditions are forecast for the rest of the week with today, Wednesday and Thursday all reaching a top of 39.

Friday will peak as the hottest day of the week, reaching 40 degrees before returning to 39 for both Saturday and Sunday.
