We need better rest facilities
TRUCKIES are fed up with being treated like "second class citizens” especially when it comes to lack of rest areas.
Readers came out swinging after a recent Letter to the Editor compared the USA's facilities to Australia's - and she wasn't happy.
"It's embarrassing,” she wrote.
And other truckies agree.
Richard Marchant, who was travelling in Canada, said "truck drivers have a lot of respect, the amenities they have are far better than what we have in Australia”.
"We are like a third-world country when it comes to infrastructure. Our government and leaders have a lot to answer for.”
Ash Black rated the rest areas on the Hume Highway as "not so bad if you know where to stop” but said everywhere else was "absolutely horrible if it's there at all”.
