'We meet all sorts of interesting people along the way'
STOPPING at Mood Food, the 24-hour Roadhouse and Truckstop at Kempton, our eye was taken when Marty Pearce from Carlton (left) and his brother Jess (right) rolled in driving a "Hobart Pumping” 2014 FMX 410 Volvo Vacuum/excavation rig on their way from Hobart up to Bothwell to fix a burst water main.
Marty said they work for a sort of family business, and they both reckon it is a great job, with plenty of variety.
"I've been here for seven years now, and it's really a good job. We work all over Southern Tasmania, and Grant and Stan are top bosses to work for and they maintain a great work environment. We get to meet all sorts of interesting people along the way, and they're mostly pretty happy to see us turn up! The Volvo is just the best rig, a pleasure to drive and perfect for the job. You might say we are both really happy here.”
Asked about time off, they both smiled and said "well when we are not in the truck or working on it, that's all about dirt bikes”.
