Watts given LNP nod
TOOWOOMBA businessman Trevor Watts has been given the nod by the LNP to run for the party in Toowoomba North.
Mr Watts, who unsuccessfully challenged sitting Labor member Kerry Shine at the last election in 2009, was the only candidate to nominate for pre-selection.
Mr Watts, 43, who is Tomba's Niteclub's licensee and a prominent Rotarian, said he appreciated the support he'd received from the LNP.
“We all know it is time for change in Queensland,” he said.
“Our region has been neglected by Labor. The second Range crossing, the spiralling cost of living, the ever-growing burden of bureaucracy, increased taxation and mining encroaching on our residential areas… the list is as depressing as it is long.”
Mr Shine has already confirmed he will be striving to retain his seat at the next election.
Toowoomba North chairman Isaac Moody said he had full confidence in Mr Watts.
“To win government, Campbell Newman needs us to win Toowoomba North and I can think of no one better than Trevor Watts to achieve this task,” he said.
Meanwhile, the hotly-contested pre-selection for the seat of Toowoomba South will take place this morning.
LNP members in the electorate will gather to vote to determine who the party will officially endorse.
The pre-selection candidates are David Janetzki from Heritage Building Society, Toowoomba Regional councillors John McVeigh and Mike Williams, Wagners concrete laboratory manager Darryl Low and Easterfest CEO Isaac Moody.
