Warning: Scam doorknockers pose as Mackay charity
UPDATE: THE president of Mackay Riding for Disabled Association is worried fake doorknockers are ripping off elderly residents in Mackay by posing as association members.
Barbara Boyd said an association member rang her on Saturday night to warn her about the scam.
"They got a message on Saturday afternoon from a resident in South Mackay ... that there was two people, a chubby girl and a tall man, knocking on doors saying they were raising money for Riding for Disabled," she said.
"The woman asked for ID or a flyer and they said they would be back. But I want to let people know we do not doorknock.
"Where it was was where elderly people live and I really don't want them to get ripped off, get duped into thinking they're supporting us."
Ms Boyd said the association hadn't faced a similar problem before.
"Nothing like this. We've been broken into twice, but we've never been told of anything like this," she said.
"When we do fundraise we have a blue and gold uniform or identification. But we do not doorknock at all."
Ms Boyd said she put a warning out on Facebook after letting Queensland Police Service know about the dodgy doorknockers.

INITIAL: FAKE doorknockers appear to be lurking in the Mackay region, posing as members of a charity.
Mackay Riding for Disabled Association president Barbara Boyd took to the group's Facebook page to warn the public.
"Pleased be warned, there's a couple going from door to door saying they are collecting for Riding for Disabled. This is not true. We do not do door knocking," she wrote on Sunday morning.
"This matter was alerted to us yesterday (Saturday). Hope no one has been conned."
Ms Boyd has been contacted for more information.
