Voices Reign Supreme

YOUNG locals proved the Maranoa is full of stars in the making at the Maranoa's Got Talent competition on Saturday.

Nineteen finalists took to the stage to show off their talent - and some were quite unusual.

Connor Humphreys wowed the crowd with his Pogo stick tricks and Emma Smith and Kirsty Walsh showed off their tandem skipping rope tricks.

Band Last Tragedy provided a great finale for the night and their upbeat cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It had the crowd clapping along.

But it was the singers who owned the night and took home the prizes.

Madeline Edwards won the competition, with her acoustic cover of Katy Perry's The One That Got Away.

Twelve-year-old Abbey Faulkner came in second and 13-year-old Laura Lavelle came in third.

Judge and musician Simone Smith said she was very impressed by the talent.

"But I wasn't surprised, I know talent is often hidden in the most surprising places," she said.

Ms Smith said Madeline stood out from the crowd as she had a great voice and was also strong on the piano.

"It was that double talent that comes out in her hands on the piano as well as through her voice," she said.

Ms Smith also made special mention of Rachel Tattam, who won the encouragement award for writing her own song.

"Creativity and composition is a talent in itself," she said.
