Venus the python seeks loving home
VENUS is a docile, friendly, low-maintenance pet.
She is also a 3.5m long coastal carpet python.
Her owner, Hervey Bay's Tess Arnold, was hoping she can find a new, loving home for Venus - and now she thinks she has found the right person.
Tess is moving and she has been searching for someone to buy Venus, preferably a woman - and happily a woman has expressed interest in buying her loveable reptile.
Venus, who is about eight years old, was raised by one of Tess' friends before Tess took her in and she has always had a female owner.
"She's a girl's snake," Tess said.
A vet told Tess she could expect Venus to live until she was about 20, but she could live even longer.
At her length and thickness, Venus is quite an intimidating sight, Tess admits.
But she is adamant that Venus would make someone a perfect pet.
"They are really, really easy pets to own.
"She loves company.
"She's not your ordinary pet - she's so easy and low maintenance.
"It's a shame people are so scared of snakes - they make beautiful pets."
Venus has a lockable enclosure because she is so big, but can open the enclosure herself if the door is unlocked.
But Tess has never had any problems with her slithering outside the house.
"She just cruises around the house," Tess said, adding that she and her partner have often found her squeezed between the cushions on their couch.
A snake the size of Venus would usually sell for about $1000, not including the enclosure.
But because Tess realises many people don't have that kind of money to spend on a snake, she sold Venus for $500, including the enclosure.
