Vandalism at rest areas anger

A SHORTAGE of rest areas suitable for heavy vehicles is a major concern for truckies around the country.

But there is nothing worse that "piddles" off our drivers more than when the ones that are user-friendly get vandalised.

That happens often and makes you ponder how the culprits can sleep at night after being responsible for such acts.

Spy spoke to a truckie last week who found a spot to park his triple road train at one rest area.

It was free of caravans which normally take up most of the space and he headed over to the public toilets which are for the convenience of all travellers.

Alas, there were human faeces and graffiti on the walls and urine on the floor.

Some poor crew from the local council would have had to clean the mess up the next day.

This type or vandalism is not uncommon and Spy has been told of many incidences at rest areas in most <QL>states.

It may often be the Aussie tradition not to dob people in for some offences.

But if ever Spy witnessed such acts he would be first cab off the rank to do just that.
