Use Brisbane Urban Corridor, get fined

KRISTEN Scarr reckons soon "there won't be a bloody truck on the roads and what are they gonna do then?”

Her comments and worries of truckies being "targeted” come after news that truckies in vehicles weighing more than 4.5 tonnes caught using the Brisbane Urban Corridor as a shortcut between Rocklea and Wishart will be slapped with fines and a loss of demerit points.

The penalties will be $652.75 for corporations or $130.55 for individuals, and three demerit points.

Member for Mansfield Corrine McMillan said truck drivers were "given fair warning" about the new rules and that heavy vehicles with a legitimate reason for travelling on the route, such as a local delivery, would not be issued with infringements.

Tracey Wilson wondered, "If trucks are forced to use certain roads and not others, then the government should be fined for unsafe roads for drivers”.

"Tolls are supposed to be used for road upkeep - what a joke. Why is it always truckies that are targeted?”
