UPDATE: Police investigate crash that saw truckie airlifted

POLICE have said they are are continuing to investigate a multi-vehicle traffic crash at Hatton Vale that has left a man with life threatening injuries on Friday.

Initial investigations indicate around 1.10pm a number of vehicles were slowing or stopped due to roadworks on the eastbound lanes of the Warrego Hwy.

A truck carrying gas bottles braked heavily before crashing into the rear of a four wheel drive causing it to roll several times.

A chain reaction followed involving a further four vehicles.

Police say a total of five vehicles, two trailers (one of which was carrying a car) and nine people were involved in the crash.

A 55-year-old Wynnum man, driver of the truck, had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition with life threatening injuries.

And a 63-year-old Yeronga woman, a driver of one of the other vehicles received a leg injury and was also taken to hospital.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating
