A BARE-FACED Derryn Hinch has emerged from 50 days in jail as outspoken as ever about sex offenders and conditions in prison.

The man dubbed the human headline was released from Langi Kal Kal jail in Trawalla, just after 8am today.

In January,  was ordered to pay the $100,000 contempt of court fine - or face 50 days in jail - with the broadcaster vowing to do the time, saying his decision was based "on principle".

The longtime controversial crusader spent his 70th birthday behind bars.

Channel Seven's Sunrise crossed live to Hinch on his release, with the visibly shaken but unrepentant media personality immediately speaking out on his experience inside.

Hinch said he found two weeks of solitary confinement "hard" but noted that inmates were eating better than many pensioners.

"There's more food, more meat there in one week, eaten by these guys, than you'd get  in a month if you're a pensioner," Hinch told Sunrise.

Hinch said he felt justified in his stance on the contempt of court order and that his fight to get a national register of sex offenders was the right way to go.
