An UGLY win to savour for Peta Brown

PETA Brown is officially the UGLYest bartender in western Queensland.

Peta became the regional winner of the Leukaemia Foundation's UGLY bartender competition recently, after raising over $6000 for charity.

She got a Facebook message from the foundation saying she had raised more than any other regional competitor

"I raised the most out of all the other little towns in south-west Queensland," she said.

"I think I beat all the other towns by $1000."

Her goal was just $5000.

"I smashed it," she said.

Mel Prior from Wide Bay won the overall competition. Bigger towns generally have an advantage because they have more customers.

Peta said she was over the moon with her achievement.

"I got a phone call on Friday to say that I won South West Regional UGLY bartender. I was so happy," she said.

"Pretty much when I first heard about (the competition), I wanted to win regionals by raising the most money for them."

One of her best fundraisers was a trivia night at the RSL.

"(Fundraising was split) about half and half," she said.

"The night gave me $3000 and I raised $3000 by myself."

She said her biggest supporter was the Charleville RSL, where she is an employee.

Competitors have to work for some bar or pub somewhere to be eligible.

"The RSL gave me $1500," she said.

"Allowing me to do all the stuff to raise money was huge."
