TVs need to be re-tuned

UPDATE:

AS PART of yesterday's TV retune at Airlie Beach and surrounds, technicians working at the Flametree/Jubilee Pocket site encountered a fault with the antenna following a suspected lighting strike more than one week ago.

A department of communications spokesperson said this meant the planned retune of all channels at this site could not be completed yesterday as scheduled.

"Services are back on air, however viewers may be experiencing poor coverage due to the damaged antenna. Technicians are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and there may be television outages today while they work on the site," the spokesperson said.

Once the technical issue has been resolved, the planned channel changes will be completed, and viewers will be able to retune their TV to receive the full range of channels.

For more information about the retune and scheduled outages visit the website, www.digitalready.gov.au/retune, or call the Digital Ready Information Line on 1800 20 10 13.

EARLIER:

LOCAL residents are reminded that all free-to-air television channels in Airlie Beach and surrounding areas, changed to new frequencies yesterday (Wednesday, June 25).

The television retune is part of a national programme, to be completed by the end of 2014, which will free up space for new services such as mobile broadband.

After channels have changed, viewers will need to retune their digital TV, set-top box or digital TV recorder to find the channels that have moved. Areas affected yesterday include Airlie Beach, Flametree, Jubilee Pocket, Cannonvale, Cannon Valley, Woodwark and Mandalay.

Shute Harbour residents will retune today (June 26) and Proserpine on July 2. Parts of Proserpine will retune on July 3.

Retuning is done using the remote. A video and three-step guide to retuning is available on the website http://www.retune.digitalready.gov.au.
