IT seems many of us have a hankering for television shows that aren't being made anymore.

The Observer received a huge response when we asked our Facebook likers which TV shows from the past they'd like to bring back.

One of the most popular suggestions was McLeod's Daughters.

The show was launched on the Nine Network in August 2001 and was the third most watched Australian TV drama series in 2002.

The rural-based series filmed in South Australia showcased a mostly female cast and told stories that reflected the lives and desires of contemporary Australian women, creator Posie Graeme-Evans has said.

The last original episodes aired in 2009.

Also getting plenty of mentions was Japanese television drama Monkey.

Based on a Chinese novel, the show ran from 1978-1980.

It featured title character Monkey, described in the theme song as being "born from an egg on a mountain top"; a stone egg and thus he is a stone monkey, a skilled fighter who becomes a brash king of a monkey tribe.

Monkey and his companions Sandy and Pigsy were often called upon to battle demons, monsters, and bandits.

Other shows mentioned in the long list included The Goodies, Catweazle, Alf, Charmed, Mork and Mindy, Blue Heelers, The A Team and Knight Rider.
