Warwick to feature on Queensland Weekender
WITH the excitement of the regions involvement in Australia's hottest new TV show Wanted still fresh in the air, the Queensland Weekender TV crew snuck into Warwick yesterday morning to showcase the region for the popular Channel 7 lifestyle and tourism program.
The crew stopped in at the Australian Professional Rodeo Association centre, in Alice St, to watch rodeo students from Warwick State High School go through their paces and then headed to The Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining for lunch.
Cherry Tree owner Scott Morton said it was a nice surprise to be selected to represent Warwick's thriving cafe scene.
"We were primarily selected as The Cherry Tree is a RACQ Dining Rewards Member, and RACQ was the driving force behind this program and its visit to this region," Mr Morton said.
"It's great exposure for the whole area but we're thrilled to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience outside of the Southern Downs.
"We have some fantastic events that draw tourists to this part of the world but the local cafes and businesses are catering to the tourism trade here all year day-in and day-out."
The Weekender crew is in the region for a few days to promote the Warwick Rodeo, as well as take in the Apple and Grape festival at Stanthorpe.
Program producer Carole Horne said the crew was enjoying its tour of the Southern Downs and looked forward to presenting the region and all it has to offer.
In keeping with the cattle industry theme, Queensland Weekender presenter Liz Cantor tucked into a juicy steak sandwich at The Cherry Tree and loved it.
"Two thumbs up" she said.
The Southern Downs story is expected to go to air later in the year in the lead-up to the Warwick Rodeo.
