Turning fashionably tribal

THE word from the international catwalks is that summer’s fashions will be all about bloom-inspired florals, lace, structured detail, colour blocking and tribal elements.

But there’s no need to travel to New York, Milan or Paris as the latest trends are right here on the Coast.

And they were interpreted in style by local designers at the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival.

Nineteen local and international designers showcased their latest collections at the Fashion Festival group show on Friday night.

The show opened boldly with Hive swimwear as models bounced, danced and skated down the catwalk with attitude.

The collection celebrated this season’s resurgence of bright fluoro colours and bold prints as well as a hint of tribal.

The rest of the swimwear and casual day wear section of the show was an eclectic mix ranging from ultra feminine to bold and innovate. Frills and cut-outs featured highly.

The stand-out was Caloundra-based label Saucy Rose, whose girlie and frilly designs delighted, as did its beautiful and elaborate headpieces.

The adorable child models showcasing children’s label Born Gorgeous won over the crowd as they showed off the label’s casual, fun and funky designs.

Glitz and glamour dominated the second part of the parade with lace, floral and tribal featuring highly.

Block colours and neutrals also were prominent.

Brand new label Jaylah Kade was a clear favourite as her rockabilly inspired dresses drew excited gasps from the audiences.

Eva Lilly stunned with her collection of contrasts. Delicate floral silks were teamed with leather for a tough yet, elegant feel.

The final parade of label, Begitta, was a stunning vision of florals, sequins, frills and hoop skirts in a playful Alice in Wonderland inspired collection.

The diverse range and styles of designs were complemented by the range of models who showcased the pieces. Almost all body types were represented and the girls and guys were stunning in a refreshingly natural way.

Waves and curls was the chosen hair style and dramatic and elaborate headpieces to wowed the crowd.

The fashion festival continues this week with number of fashion forward events and launches around the Coast.
