Trucking community praises heroic driver

THE Big Rigs community is celebrating one of our own after Darren Cooke was awarded the ATA Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian award.

Mr Cooke, who said he was just trying to do the right thing and help out someone in danger, put himself in harm's way to help save the life of a fellow truckie after an accident back in February on the Hume Highway near Yerrinbool and was given the accolade recently.

Raelene Jones said it was another case of a "great Aussie truck driver helping another. Well done".

Nellie Simpson said "you are a special man Darren Cooke" and Brendon Gilbert, who won the award last year, praised his fellow driver.

"Well done, Darren, good one."
