WHEN Big Rigs met Zane Smith in Ross, Tasmania, he asked about Townsville in the tropics.
The 50-year-old Zane works for Bidvest based at Cambridge near Hobart and was delivering refrigerated food in a 2010 Fuso to the Ross Hotel.
"One of my colleagues has been transferred to Townsville and is leaving soon," he said.
Being from Townsville I briefed Zane and he was going to pass the info on to his mate.
The temperature was about 30 degrees Celsius, roughly the same as in Ross during the Tassie summer.
"It gets very cold in the winter here and near the town of Poatina I had to drive by seeing the road guide posts as the snow was on the surface," he said.
Ross has Tasmania's second oldest bridge still used by traffic (circa 1836) and has a tare rating of 20 tonnes.
Later that day Zane was spotted making a delivery at Colebrook as he dropped off food to the store.
