Truckin' is a great life says Rodney

IT WAS, as always, a great pleasure to run into our old mate Rodney Breadmore from Swansea on the East Coast at the Caltex at Epping Forest the other day, when he rolled in for a break.

He was driving Andrew Barker's 2007 T-650 with a 620 Signature Cummins up front and towing a Skel that he had taken from Triabunna to Bell Bay in the morning, having then done some work for Kerrisons (Orana Contracting) through the day, his usual run.

"I started driving casual for Andrew Barker when Wagners lost their contract about two years ago, and I'm still here, and loving it! In fact I started out driving with Barker's in the mid-1970's, and was there for about 20 years, then I went driving for Wagners until two years ago, and then I came back to help out, and here I am still, and it's a great job, and a top family outfit to work for, and I couldn't be happier!” he said. "I was working out the other day that I have now put in over 10 million k's in log trucks over the years and here I am still doing it.”

We asked about time off: "Well, I have a tractor and a slasher, and then there's always wood chopping, so I stay busy, and there's always something waiting to be done, but I still reckon it's a great life, and have no regrets about choosing to go driving as a young fellow!”
