FOR the past 28 years, Peter Shearman has been driving trucks for the Townsville City Council in North Queensland.
The 56-year-old Peter was behind the wheel of an Isuzu Tipper when we saw him on January 22 outside the Garbutt Shopping Centre.
"I deliver crusher dust, which fills in holes around here, and this Isuzu is well-suited for the job," he said.
The Isuzu Sitec 150 Series III gets plenty of work in a region renowned for tropical cyclones.
"I have been here through cyclones, including Yasi in 2011 and Althea way back in '71, when I was a teenager," he said.
Peter has followed the career path of his late father Billy Shearman, who worked for the council for more than 40 years, the majority as a truck driver.
"Dad was very well known and died more than 20 years ago and used to drive the council fuel truck. He actually got me the job," Peter said.
