Truckin' in the Tropics: Mick Simpson

AS Mick Simpson drove along a dirt road in an Isuzu to deliver a mattress to a remote station he saw just how the drought had affected that part of the outback.

The 36-year-old Mick works for Townsville based Snooze and was delivering to a property at the small hamlet of Prairie which is 43km east of Hughenden and beside the Flinders Hwy.

"It was a dusty dirt road and I thought I was on another planet but I love the job for the variety," he said.

Mick delivers mattresses, bed bases and furniture mostly around Townsville but also gets as far away as Cairns up north, south to Mackay and west to Prairie.

"The Isuzu NPR 75-190 is near new and we have had it since April," said Mick who is the warehouse manager for Snooze.

When away Mick enjoys stopping at the Alligator Creek Roadhouse just south of Townsville beside the Bruce Hwy.

"I like the chicken wings they serve there," he said.

Outside work Mick likes fishing and camping around the Balgal Beach area 50km north of Townsville.

"I went camping with the kids there recently," he said.

Mick barracks for the North Qld Cowboys in the NRL.
