Truckin' in the blood, says Brendan

NO-ONE can stop at Bennett's Caltex Roadhouse and Truckstop at Kempton without wondering what they are doing there - a new drive through coffee and snacks "to go” unit is opening on the site now.

But they do make good coffee and tucker just the same, and it was good to catch up with Brendan Duggan from Dromedary when he dropped in.

He was driving an MDG Contracting 2017 Kenworth SAR with a 550 Cummins up the front and towing a 5 axle dog trailer with a load of coal going from Hamilton to Fingal, there he would backload more coal (a different grade) to Boyer and then knock off for the day, being aware of one of the many bushfires that were burning close to home at Dromedary at the time.

"I've been with MDG for about seven months now”, he said, "and they are a great crowd and operate top gear and they are keeping us fairly busy up and down the highway carting coal both ways. I have been on the road for 10 years now, and that's about my entire working life, and I am still loving it, mind you it is in the blood.”

Asked about time off, the reply was: "In one word, family”.
