WE WERE passing through Pinnaroo recently in South Australia, when our eye was taken by the arrival of a Western Star.
It had one very impressive six foot custom sleeper and six long range fuel tanks, big gear for the big country!
"Not only is this a great job, with a top boss, but this truck is just a seriously good rig in every way, plus it's a pleasure to drive,” Colin Arblaster from Swan Hill told us.
He was driving a Begg's Transport 1999 4900 Constellation with a 600 C-15 Cat up front and towing a Tri triaxle drop deck B-double, and he was on his way from Swan Hill to Renmark via Loxton for a load of almonds, and then return.
"This is pretty well my daily run, and I really enjoy it! I've been here with this outfit for three good years now, and altogether on the road for about nine years,” he said.
Colin told us he has no regrets at all in taking on the job and about being a truck driver.
"Plus it's an interesting drive, always changing with the seasons. When I do get time off, well living at Swan Hill as I do, yes I enjoy water skiing and fishing.”
Colin's living the trucking life in the big river country.
