Truckies say this won't help

CALLS to widen trucks were shot down by truckies.

Chris Guascoine called it a "joke” as the roads "we call highways and freeways can barely cope with the size vehicles we have now”.

Wayne Bryen agreed: "If they allow an increase in width, then they would need to widen far too many roads, not to mention pallets and other freight to suit the width”.

Andre Hinde said increasing widths "won't change diddly squat”, saying when overall length was increased to allow for bigger bunks, companies increased trailer length and ran cabovers with small bunks to maximise payload.
