Truckies reckon red light camera ban is a great idea

AUSTRALIAN truckies reckon Texas is right on the money with its recent move to ban red light cameras.

Governor Greg Abbott, representing the US state, signed legislation that bans red light cameras across the state.

House Bill 1361, authored by Republican State Representative Jonathan Stickland, would prohibit the use of "photographic traffic signal enforcement systems".

One driver described the Governor as a "legend" and many thought it was a great idea.

Truckie Pete Hughes said red light cameras do nothing to improve road safety.

"Quite often other vehicles will brake heavily, too scared to go through, causing chain collision accidents," he said.

Michael Archer said he didn't like electronic ticketing because it did not stop or slow people.

"They just continue breaking the law then wear lots later."

Oliver Coppen said it would never happen in Australia because the country was "drunk on revenue".
