SANTA Claus has come to town.
Truckie Desmond Ellem, 38, has been masquerading as the big red man spreading Christmas joy this week on his trip from Sydney to Brisbane.
He's even decorated his truck.
"Being Santa brings me joy because of all the kids, it keeps the special magic Christmas feeling going, plus puts a smile on people's face," he told Big Rigs.
"We neve know what someone else is going through and if something as simple as a wave from Santa can make them smile then it's worth it.
"I have loved seeing the smiles and the laughs and will do it again."
Desmond, who has been a truck driver for 12 years, said he was very surprised with the response he'd got from everyone.
"I decided to do it because I normally do the Christmas toy runs on motorbikes but because I leave early for work every Sunday then home on a Friday it makes it hard.
Desmond said it was hard to leave his family - wife Toni and three children Alanna, Connor and Ryan - home all week to make a living.
"But that's life, I do it to give them everything I never had."
Desmond works for Ryans Transport and drives a truck owned by Mulveys Transport.
