Truckie points out where problem lies

TRUCKIES have taken issue with Transport Shadow Minister Anthony Albanese's calls for "action on highway safety”.

Phil Taggart called it "a load of rubbish” as the industry has ensured speed limiters are not compliant and logs ensure hours are not violated.

Greg Garrett hit out at the idea of truckies getting paid more money.

"Instead of spruiking all of this rot about paying truck drivers more money to make the roads safer, why not look at the statistics of what causes most of the accidents in the first place and then come up with a plan to teach people to be better drivers?” he said.

Lee Jarvis challenged the minister to "rock up to a loading dock, ready to go, only to get told load not ready, then wait four hours only to be told it's express and needs to be there by 8am. Problem is it's a 10-hour drive and it's midnight and you are already five hours into your book”.

"It's not rocket science to work out the problem.”
