Truckie killed while under vehicle on South Gippsland Hwy

A TRUCK driver who has died in Gippsland, Victoria, is thought to have been checking underneath his vehicle, which was stopped on the side of the road.

Emergency services have been at the scene on the South Gippsland Highway at Bena for most of the day investigating the circumstances surrounding this morning's tragedy.

Police have been told the truck was travelling west on the South Gippsland Highway when the driver pulled over on the highway just after 10.30am.

It is believed the man had stopped and was checking underneath the vehicle when it rolled backwards on a slight incline.

He died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
