Truckie dies in forklift incident

IT appears to have been a freak and tragic accident that killed a man at his home Thursday evening.

Truck driver Bruce Spring was working at his Sandiford property when he crushed by a forklift.

It's believed there were two other men working with him at the time.

Police were called to the property at Sandiford, 15km south-west of Mackay, about 5.15pm Thursday after reports of the accident. As the sun went down, officers from Forensic Crash Unit had to use torches to investigate.

Locals stood at the front of their houses, and couldn't have known the severity of the situation as investigators worked across the paddock of their neighbour's yard.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said the man in his 60s had been reversing a forklift off a truck when it tipped and crushed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
