LIGHTS, camera, action! The Sunshine Coast's budding actors are exercising their vocal chords and turning on their finest performances with dreams of making it to the big screen.

Brisbane-based Australian School of Performing Arts, Film and Television has started its acting course to help young performers hone their skills.

The six-week course is designed for actors of all skill levels, aged seven to 17. Co-founder Renata Einhaus said increasing demand for classes brought the crew to the Coast to provide a unique insight into the workings of the film and television industry.

"It can be a daunting experience for kids going into a casting, so we do mock castings with them and they learn how to address a director and casting agent," he said.

"We are very realistic about the film industry and by no means promise stardom to our students.

"We are industry focussed and our courses are designed around training and experience rather than instant success.

"What we like to do in actor training is polish and refine the acting instrument and some of the things we like to work on are the verbal dynamic, the expression, ability to create a moment and the ability to take on character and deliver a believable performance."
