Trail opens for Toowoomba trekkers

RECREATIONAL cyclists, walkers and horse riders will have a further 7.5km of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail  to explore following the official opening of the Yarraman to Harland Park section this weekend.

The multi-use trail has been created on the corridor of the historic rail line.

When completed, the trail will extend from Wulkuraka near Ipswich to Yarraman on the Great Dividing Range.

It will be a 161 kilometre recreation trail that follows the old railway line providing walkers, touring cyclists and horse riders with an opportunity to experience the history and landscape of the Brisbane Valley.

The new section will be officially opened by Toowoomba Regional mayor Peter Taylor at Yarraman Station Grounds in Millar Street this Saturday, October 8.

Willing participants are invited to give their feedback on the effectiveness of the Yarraman network of trails in terms of signage, infrastructure and access as well as their overall experience.

A free sausage sizzle will be provided at 8.30am prior to the official opening at 9am.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Kirsten.stewart@dlgp.qld.gov.au at the Department of Local Government and Planning.

Those wanting to join the Yarraman community in celebrating the Colours of Yarraman Festival being held over the remainder of the weekend are welcome to do so.

Toowoomba Regional Council agreed to a proposal to extend the original BVRT from Nukku to Yarraman in recognition of Yarraman as the original terminus of the Brisbane Valley rail line.

It was seen as a logical progression that the historical link should be re-created.
