Tow truck parks on train tracks

TALK about a close call.

This Melbourne tow truck driver had a close call with a train in the city's southeast when he loaded a car while on the tracks.

Footage has surfaced of the incident at Blacks Crossing in Chelsea and was shared by 7News, showing the driver winching a broken down car onto the track of his tow truck, parked in the middle of the tracks.

Luckily, he loaded the car and left the tracks before something bad happened, but just a few seconds later the boom gates came down for a train to move through.

7News reported that the truck company, Nationwide Towing and Transport, said the driver had not followed their standard safety procedures.

The statement they provided to 7News said they were aware of the incident and a review was underway.

"Nationwide takes matters like these seriously as the safety of our drivers, motorists and the wider public is of paramount importance to us," the statement read.

"Nationwide is shocked and extremely disappointed with the driver's actions, and we will deal with them accordingly."
