Toowoomba has Qld's best tap water: What about nationally?
TOOWOOMBA'S tap water will be put to the test this month as it represents Queensland at the Ixom Best Tap Water in Australia competition.
A water sample, taken from the Mt Kynoch Scheme, will go up against those from plants in four states, including Tasmania which won last year's crown.
The competition has been running for three years and is organised by the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia. Chief operating officer Craig Mathisen said the competition highlighted the serious work to ensure residents received clean drinking water.
"The competition is a testament to the high-quality of Australian water and the diligence and commitment of the operational employees to provide a supply of safe, great tasting water to communities across Australia," he said.
"Many of us turn on the faucets for a drink of water, to cook and take a shower and give little thought to what it takes to operate and maintain the municipal water infrastructure.
"Most members of the general public would be surprised by the complexity and hard work that goes into delivering household water."
The awards will be held on October 18 in Launceston in Tasmania, with the winner to go on to the International Water Tasting Competition in the United States.
The samples will be judged on their colour, clarity, odour and taste.
