Toowoomba will be painted purple this week (April 4 to 8) to mark the launch of Cancer Council's Relay For Life.

Volunteers will set up a stall in The Village green and are encouraging local businesses to go purple to show their support.

Toowoomba Relay For Life Volunteer Committee Chairperson Cassie O'Dea said purple week was a great way to get the whole community involved in the Cancer Council fundraiser.

"Purple week is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness about Relay For Life and involve local businesses in the fight against cancer," Ms O'Dea said.

"We are in the village green during business hours all week, so we encourage locals to come down and have a chat about Relay For Life.

"Our event will be held again at beautiful Queen's Park on May 21 and 22, and we want to see as many people down there this year as possible."

Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life Coordinator Jillian Huth said the 2016 event aimed to raise $150,000 for Cancer Council Queensland.

"The money raised helps support vital cancer research, support programs and resources for cancer patients and their families," Ms Huth said.

"In Toowoomba we are proud to be able to offer regional patients a home away from home during their treatment at the Olive McMahon lodge on Scott Street; something that would not be possible without the generous support of the Toowoomba community.

"Cancer Council's 13 11 20 also ensures that no one goes through cancer alone, linking them with the support Cancer Council Queensland offers, such as counselling, accommodation and transport services."

Purple Week will run from April 4 to 8.
