Toowoomba girl on her way to Harvard law school
HARVARD is no longer a distant dream for former St Ursula's College girl Bronte Shaddock.
Ms Shaddock applied directly to the prestigious Ivy League school for the summer semester late last year and found out she was accepted within three weeks.
She is due to complete a seven-week intensive study program starting this June.
"I suppose I've always wanted to do it. Harvard was always the dream, but living in Australia you don't really see it as attainable," she said.
"You had to register your interest and send through an academic transcript. I wasn't expecting to be accepted so quickly.
"I decided to apply and work out the money situation later, because how often do I have the chance to go to Harvard?"
Now nearing the final year of her arts/law degree at the University of Queensland, the 22-year-old said her love for law started in her high school classroom.
"I think it goes back to Year 12 when I did legal studies. I love the process and the problem solving. It's a very people-orientated industry and I love working with people.
"My teacher (Narelle Wiseman) was the best. She was so knowledgeable and didn't need to look at notes, she had so many stories to tell."
To raise the $15,000 needed to get there, Ms Shaddock is running a crowd-funding campaign Help Send Me to Harvard.
